GCs provide general oversight of the construction process, from planning through to completion. They are usually also in charge of employing subcontractors, organizing the work, ordering construction supplies, controlling budgets, and inspecting construction quality. When looking into what does a general contractor do, it is important to understand that they also act as the key link between property owners and the construction team. They can coordinate electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and other professionals as required for the project. They also help resolve delays and communicate important updates. Specific duties vary according to the contract, project specifications, and local building codes.
